Yes, they are slightly ugly :) but very comfy and warm. DD and I both needed them badly, because we are both having a nasty, nasty cold :(
The weather outside wasn't exactly inviting:
So I just sat in my chair and made them-one pair for DD, one pair for me.
They are reminiscent of simple knitted slippers well known in Poland and probably elsewhere in the world, too. In Warsaw you could see an elderly lady making and selling them in the very center of the downtown area. Maybe she is still coming there with her little stool and yarn and needles?
Ugly but Comfy Crocheted Slippers
worsted weight yarn, preferably wool (I used acrylic)
hook 6.0 mm
yarn needle
st, sts-stitch, stitches
ch-chain
sl st - slip stitch
sc- single crochet
blo sc -sc through back loop only
flo sc - sc through front loop only
RS - right side of work
WS - wrong side of work
With two strands of yarn held together ch 11
Row 1
starting in 2nd chain from hook sc in back bump of each of next 9 sts, 5 sc in next st, working on opposite side of foundation ch - sc in each st across [23 sc]
Row 2 (RS)
ch1 (counts as first sc now and throughout pattern) and turn, sc blo in each of next 22 sts [23 blo sc]
Row 3 (WS)
ch1 and turn, sc flo across [23 flo sc]
NOTE: sometimes it's difficult to find out where to place the last stitch of each row. Count your stitches during work, there should always be 23 of them (beg ch 1 counts, too) The needle shows you the placement of last stitch of row.
Rows 4-12
Repeat Rows 2 and 3
If you need you can make more rows here, but remember to end with row 3, on RS. Your foot should be covered like this:
From now on you will be working in continuous rounds. There's no real need to put any markers as blo sc rows are easy to count on their ridges.
To join work in round: ch 1, sl st in beg ch1 of the row just made.
Just in case, check if you are able to pull this part of slipper on your foot. It should feel slightly tight.
You may ch2 if it's to tight or no chain at all, if it's too loose.
Now work sc blo in each st around, without joining rounds. Work 12 rows, or until only the tip of your big toe is sticking out :)
Proceed to the edge of your foot, like this:
Decrease and close toe opening working as follows: (sc in next st,skip next st) repeat around until only a few (3-4) sts remain
Fasten off leaving about 5-6 in of yarn, close the hole using a yarn needle. Weave in the loose ends.
And here they are, ugly, but comfy!!
